All In The Family is a Quest in Divinity: Original Sin II.
A scrap of paper tells of a strange object that drove Johanna Surrey to madness. The numbers 2, 1, and 3 were scribbled in the margins.
Tarquin asked us to retrieve the powerful artefact from the Surrey family crypt.
Important NPCs
All In The Family Objectives
- Find the first artefact.
- Find the second artefact Artifact.
- Take the two artefacts to Tarquin
All In The Family Walkthrough
At the gate of Stonegarden in Reaper's Coast, Tarquin asks you to investigate a family crypt and retrieve something for him. You can get the key from a petrified sourceress, Qanna found in the crypt guarded by the hound (the crypt is close to and directly north of the family crypt and is flanked by two knight statues). Cast Armor of Frost, or Bless on her inside the crypt to depetrify her and she will talk to you. If you fight with her she will spawn undead minions, but kill her and they will disappear so just focus her down. Note that she CAN be damaged (and even killed) while she is petrified. So if you want to talk to her, you can take her down to a sliver of health, talk, and then un-petrify. A single Marksman's Fang will ignore the armor and likely kill her.
Next head to the family crypt and open the door. In the first room of the family crypt, there are two buttons on the wall, you need to get close to find them. Press these the buttons to open the stone gate.
Cast Spirit Vision (Learned in Powerful Awakening), you will see three levers on the wall in the second room with the sarcophagus. Have a party member stand on the pressure plate in the third room, then press the levers (middle-left-right) to reveal a secret hatch. If you have already touched the levers since stepping on the plate, in some other order, then you need to "reset" the middle lever. Pull the middle lever until water comes out, then do left, then do right.
There's a treasury under that hatch, use your character with highest lucky charm to loot them. The artefact is in the sarcophagus, if your character is a lizard, he/she will recognize the language of demons. You need at least 14 strength or the Sarcophagus "won't budge"
When you try to leave the tomb, all clay sentinels will revive and attack you.
The fight can be avoided by fast traveling to the Stonegarden waypoint.
Report to Tarquin, he will tell you the other pieces of artefact is on Bloodmoon Island.
When you travel to the Bloodmoon Island, you can find a hatch on its northeast corner, you need 22 wit (use Peace of Mind skill to boost your wits by 9 points) to spot it buried:
Inside the vault is the other half of the artefact.
Inside is another wits check in the form of a door that looks like a wall. The ghost inside this room has nothing to do with gaining access.
When you have both halves of the artifact, talk to Tarquin. (Sometimes he is not at the gate of Stonegarden, you can find him on The Lady Vengeance, near the boat. If you travel to The Lady Vengeance by waypoint, he's right next to you.)
If you give Tarquin the pieces, he will repair it at ACT IV (The Arx), it's arguably the best two-hand weapon in the game. (Sadly, only 1 durability)
NOTE: Giving Tarquin the parts doesn't lock the trade option with him, simply initiate the conversation and click on the trade icon (DE).
Tips & Tricks
- Focus on killing the two Clay Sentinals at the top of the steps (one on either side of the sarcophagus) to avoid them reanimating already killed Clay Sentinals.
- If Tarquin is missing for you, one possible solution is to travel to The Lady Vengeance waypoint, take the rowboat on the side to shore, then take the rowboat back to The Lady Vengeance. Tarquin should be standing next to the rowboat at this point.
- If Tarquin doesn't show up at the graveyard at all you might have played too far ahead in Reaper's Coast. Try loading a save just after arriving in the area and head straight for the graveyard through the Paladin Bridgehead. You can get the quest and then continue on wherever you want.
- You can use other silver items (Silver Glass) to produce the Silver Lever Shaft on the Ancient Forge at the Bloodmoon Island.
- There's a glowing chest inside the crypt where you get the second artefact piece, "unusual blade". Make sure to lockpick (requires Thievery level 4) then open it, it has the green Teleporter Pyramid in it!
- Right behind the glowing chest, there is a chest hidden in the crack between the destroyed bridge and the floor beneath it. You can use Teleportation to see it glowing yellow. You need a certain angle to reach it with teleport or you can use Apportion
- The petrified looters around Qanna can be attacked & killed for ~3.9k xp each. Removing their petrification instead rewards no exp.
- Anonymous
If you've gone ahead to Bloodmoon and retrieved both the artifact and blade, you won't be able to show Tarquin the artifact. Drop the blade to proceed to the next stage of the quest.

Took me a while, but I finally figured out you can't use any of those "broken vases" lying around to put on the pressure plate so you can activate the levers to open the hatch. Or, more correctly, the vases will depress the pressure plate fine, but they are too weak to survive the electric jolt that comes after pulling the left lever (lever 1). They simply shatter, the door swings open again, and the whole thing resets. Finally I just dropped a backpack and put that on the pressure plate. Worked perfectly then. I would've, of course, just had a second character stand on the damn plate, but I'm playing solo.

is it just me beacuase im glitched out i have strength 19 and it says wont budge im playin DE
- Anonymous
What happens if you pickpocket the artifacts after you gave them to him? Am i still able to get the sword in act 4?
- Anonymous
I killed Tarquin when I first got into the Lady Vengeance, never trust a necro, so now I got the pieces of the weapon but no one to fix it LMAO
- Anonymous
In the Surrey crypt, I went into sneak mode, opened the sarcophagus of the first artefact, right-clicked the artefact to send to storage on the Lady Vengeance, and then snuck out without entering the fight.
- Anonymous
As for today 2-1-3 does not work in DE steam version. Had to play randomly with the levers for 10 minutes until I casually hit the right combo. Don't know what it is though.
- Anonymous
Did the 2-1-3 combo on levers and have a strong of 0. Can't get lid off or trapdoor to appear. Thoughts?
- Anonymous
i focused quanna but after i killed her, game crashed. Any idea?
- Anonymous
You can also drop one or more things that equate to at least 5 lbs. on the floor switch before activating the 2-1-3 wall switches. A set of armor or disarm trap mechanisms works just fine. Then you can pick it up right after.

This quest is bugged for me, i cant give the second part to Tarquin, the quest wont end and the blade keeps in my inventory
- Anonymous
Took awhile to find Tarquin. He was near X:627 Y:199 near Stonegarden
Killed each of the petrified guys except Qanna. Did not bless them just killed the outright and got the XP.
- Anonymous
Dont use Bless or Vaporize (removes petrified status) on the plunderer / marauder / pillager / burglar, instead force attack with melee / ranged on them so they award free XP. Curing their petrified status won't give any.
- Anonymous
There are 5 total petrified "marauders". Specifically, 2 marauders, 1 pillager, 1 plunderer, and 1 burglar. If attacked while petrified, each is worth 3875 XP in DE. After killing the petrified "marauders", Qanna is worth 7725 XP (her summons are worth 0 XP). Total XP is (3875 XP * 5) + 7725 XP = 21700 XP.
In the Crypt where Qanna is, don't miss out the exp from the 3 petrified victims. You need to attack them instead of bless/frost armor/vaporize. 3 x 3875 exp in DE.
- Anonymous
Tarquin is the guy that you encounter on the ship in the sealed room (where the password is Fortitude) after wounding Alexander on the coast (all that shriekers stuff) at the end of Fort Joy island. If you killed him (as i did) he won't be walking in Stonegarden or on The Vengance, he won't give you quest "All in the Family" and there will be no amazing weapon in Arx. You can still obtain both pieces of the artifact, but as far as i know they will be useless.
- Anonymous
Is there no way to get the loot out of the Hissing Chest? I mean it’s just an unidentified rare item, a consumable and some gold but the hoarder in me still wants it lol
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
"There's a glowing chest inside the crypt lockpick then open it, it has the green Teleporter Pyramid in it!" And, seems like you have to take thievery skill, no way to open the chest otherwise... Since there is a Pyramid, it should not be a mandatory, there should be another way. I don't want to take thievery, but game tells that you must. Can't destroy the chest, with all the items (belt, gloves, chest) I have only +3 and this is not enough. This is the first time I see this game force you to do something like this (having/being a thief).
- Anonymous
you can simcity in that tomb to do not reach the clay golem to you with gold piles and candels and.. hunt with rangers or magic
- Anonymous
I'm trying to get the second piece in the Archives, but the doorway is closed. There are no levers or buttons anywhere and I can't find a solution by googling. What have I done wrong? :(
- Anonymous
Okay, so, if you need help beating the golems. Don't start the fight by leaving; start by attacking. You may wish to cast Peace of Mind before you attack to ensure you go first. An Initiative of 20 won't go first, but 26 will. Awake both of the resurrection golems up front with an accurate shooter, like an archer, by shooting them both. The first will put you in combat, the second will have to take some action points. Teleport one golem next to the other; whichever side the "lesser golems" woke up on is the side you want both resurrection golems on (they're the ones with the armor who stand up front if you're confused). Throw a charm grenade (perfume bottle + honey; craft in advance) on the "lesser golems." The ones with armor won't be affected anyway. Let the lesser golems two-shot both of the resurrection golems. Start waking other golems by damaging them while your charm is still active. Kill and use skills as needed. AoE Lightning works great against these guys.
- Anonymous
Is it it me or do a lot of the sentinels wake up randomly? Yes, they wake (1/4th) when you try to leave or hit, bit beyond that, seems pretty random. Not helpful. And the resurrection sentinel can resurrect the other resurrection sentinel. And since he random wakes when I'm on the opposite side of the map not hitting him, well.... guess I lose again. I guess this fight was made to justify a charm grenade.
Another strategy for the clay golem fight is to launch love grenades, avoiding the 2 "boss" golems. For me, the effect lasted 2 turns or so with the minions killing the bosses and some of the untargeted groupies. with the remaining turn, perform all the AOE you can.
- Anonymous
i love fextralife, but for this quest, allthegamer has better info.
- Anonymous
Bless a char with high strength before opening to counter being petrified.
- Anonymous
The sarcophagus needs to be opened twice to get the loot. My polymorph with Medusa's Head could not open the lid due to lack of strength, don't know if that even works. Opened the lid with my tank, got petrified, medic did Armor of Frost on him, tank got the loot without issue.
- Anonymous
In DE, each of the petrifying marauders in the gated crypt give 3875xp upon attacking and killing them. Note that using bless or armor of frost on them will only turn them into bone dust and will not provide the EXP.
- Anonymous
If you have someone with Medusa Head skill you can cast it and open the tomb lid without being petrified.
- Anonymous
i needed 22 wits to reveal the Bloodmoon Island hatch, had 21 (with peace of mind) but it wasnt enough, so i needed to search for items in my backpack to increase it. luckily only with 1
- Anonymous
No idea why but my game had no Qanna or any other petrified persons in the crypt. Still able to get the blade but odd nonetheless.
- Anonymous
If you use spirit vision and then take the spirits source you don't have to fight the sentinels
- Anonymous
My character has 18 wits but still can't see the hatch. Did i do something wrong?
- Anonymous
Ay uh tarquin was mad shady so I bodied that foo on the ship deck by accident and saved it. No way to repair this otherwise?
- Anonymous
i steal stuff while i talk to them sometimes so the skrrt is real they cant see the other character so easy skrtttttt
- Anonymous
i just steal stuff from people and kill them afterwards sneakyyy mofo sskkrr best game ever 12/10
- Anonymous
Destroying the other petirified marauder on Qanna crypt give u some other items
- Anonymous
It's amazing the lack of detail in these. Who the hell wrote this crap.
- Anonymous
I gave him both pieces right before moving to the next act, but he never finished it, even after I've done everything in Act IV (before the end), kept saying it'll be ready when it's ready. Strangely also in Act II he was back at the ship, kept mumbling something about getting back on the ship in voice, but the text wasn't matching
- Anonymous
I wish I had waited to give him the parts until I was ready to set sail. After receiving the parts he is not available as a vendor and he has good stuff.
- Anonymous
For anyone having trouble finding Tarqin at the graveyard to start the quest, remember he wiil hang around either the southern or northern gate depending on which one you approached first. (I generally go straight to the Hens and to help the crazy grenade lady first, so he is usually at the rear one for me. Even if I don't go all the way to the gate. However one time when down in the well I entered Ryker's through the basement. This caused him to hang around the Northern Gate). Also once you've spoken to him after claiming the hilt he will return to the lady vengeance and you will find him there.
- Anonymous
Tips for clay sentinels. Petrify from the medusa head will freeze the room as they have no magic armor (in normal mode) BUT they have to all be activated.
bring elemental barrels, explosive is best. put a barrel in each group. initiate the fight from the center of the room with pyromania. burn them all to death and any that are resurrected by the 2 with magic armor will burn to death a second time due to lingering fires.
- Anonymous
Tarquin isn't at the Graveyard and not on Lady Vegance Either for me! On the Bloodmoon Island the hatch isn't there! :( Is it a bug or something else?
- Anonymous
I can't find Tarquin at the Graveyard (Tarquin isn't at lady vegance either!) and on the bloodmoon island the hatch isn't there! :( Is it a bug or something else?
- Anonymous
I had so much fun with the sentinels. I walked in with only 1 character but he had boneshell armor and got 3000 armor every cast and could wipe the half room with 1 aoe cast.
- Anonymous
These sentinels are deadly if you play Tactician and go the "normal" way..They wiped me out because of the mistake to create holy fire so they heal from that. They hit hard and hit the same party member until is dead. The spear is long range melee.Better to start the fight yourself instead of going to the exit and start normally.
- Anonymous
Tried killing clay sentinels before looting the room but they activated as soon as I attacked and wiped me out quite a few times before I gave up and used the pyramids to escape after looting the room
- Anonymous
Bugged, Tarquin missing.
I've collected the first piece from the tomb, but since then Tarquin is missing. He's nowhere to be found at the graveyard, even after trying the rowboat reset. Have done many many hours play since then. Won't be reloading back that far. Can only hope this is bug fixed.
- Anonymous
I managed to look the tomb without being petrified - simply had to open the tomb, and the moment the menu came up hit "loot all" and it closed out, didn't petrify me.
- Anonymous
If you un-petrify Qanna with Sebille, there is an interesting persuation choice. You need high intelligent, I went to the magic mirror and put all my points in int and persuasion, but the check still fails and says I need 99 persuasion. Perhaps this is a bug or an easter egg that is not available withouh cheating :)
- Anonymous
To get the Clay Golems alive, light up all the lights in the crypt, torches and candles.
- Anonymous
Seems I hit another bug :-(. The quest started well. I gave Tarquin the first part of the sword and good. Now I brought him the one from the Bloodmoon Island, but when I talk to him, I have only two options. Either to refuse to give it to him or to leave the conversation. I cannot give it to him :-(. Sad.
- Anonymous
If you destroy the locked gate near the 3 switch, you ll have no choice but to do this quest in multiplayer since your character will move away before you have time to enter 2-1-3 :(
- Anonymous
Use the teleporting pyramids from Lady Vengeance to get out of the crypt without aggroing the clay golems
- Anonymous
I was pretty disappointed... The clay golems never attacked me when i took the sword and left the tomb :(
- Anonymous
In the family tomb by the sentinels you'll receive a brittle (unrepairable) unique spear with good damage but no other stats. And it has 1/1 durability.
- Anonymous
To loot the sarcophagus next to Qanna, simply cast Frost Armour on whoever is looting. I got an epic unidentified belt.
- Anonymous
The summons don't reward XP, but they are soul bound. So if you start killing a few with AOE dmg, they will fall like dominoes. Also, the petrified burglars can be unpetrified for some minor loot. They are nothing but dead bones by now. Another convenient spell to unpetrify is Vaporise.
- Anonymous
If you pass the persuasion check with Qanna you still have to fight her.
- Anonymous
I bought up his goods and robbed him of 14500 cash after getting this quest.. I was all up in the family..
- Anonymous
You can also use silver cups/glasses in place of the ingots for the same result. :)
- Anonymous
So, during my run. I acquired both pieces under the guise of All In The Family. It never said I completed it, nor could I find Tarquin on the shore even after attempting to reset him. So I went to the next area : The Nameless Isle, assuming that, per the wiki description I could give Tarquin the pieces in Chapter Vl (The Arx) And yet nothing is prompted. Did you have to give him the pieces before you went to The Nameless Isles? If that the case.....well blast in damnation, I wanted that sword.
- Anonymous
Looks like the latest patch has bugged Tarquin. He won't return to the shop after receiving the two parts of the swords, saying he needs to find some odds and ends before returning, then he never does.
- Anonymous
Just to point out since lots of people seem to be having a problem with the combination. You have to have someone stand on it, dont use the jars because the jars explode from the lever effects before the combination finishes.
- Anonymous
so i got a nice good ol bug i think that's different from teh ones here. so i talked to him outside of stonegarden, got the half of the sword in stone garden, told him about it, he went back to the lady vengeance, i go to bloodmoon island, get the 2nd piece, go back to lady vengeance, give him the piece, he says thanks, and then i leave the ship to do other stuff assuming he's repairing the sword or some*****, i go back to the ship to end the act and continue on cause i'm done, malady says he's not on the ship (and he's not) she says he's in stonegarden. i go to stonegarden and he's no where to be found.
fan *****ing tastic. *****

This quest is *****ing cancer, had to reload because of a bug and lost 5 hours.
- Anonymous
Destroyed the golems pre fight, yet they still respawning. In order to avoid the fight, exited the tomb with one of characters with the pyramid, then teleported the one with the artifact to him
- Anonymous
FYI, if you don't have high wit/perception for the Bloodmoon location, just use a shovel and the hatch will reveal itself.
- Anonymous
So what If I tell you that Tarquin leaves the ship, but I did not follow him immediately to Stonegarden, because I had other more important things to do than just following NPCs. He comes back to the Lady Vengeance after some time and didn give me a quest when I finally got to go to Stonegarden. How freakin' beautifully bugged this game omg.
- Anonymous
Majorly buggy quest - Tarquin was stuck on the boat for me, never gave the quest.
The Wit checks for Bloodmoon are 21 / 23 for the hatch / secret door.

I didn't explore Stonegarden at all. I simply saved it before and explored other places first. Tarquin is nowhere to be found but next to the boat on the Lady Vengeance. Now I can't start the quest "All in the family"...
- Anonymous
Tarquin wasn't at any of the gates when I first entered the crypt and got the piece.
I went back to the ship to talk to him, but no mention of the quest.
So I traveled back to the stone garden and he is still nowhere to be found. Is there no way for me to get this quest if I find a piece of the artifact before beginning the quest?
Thanks

Worked for me, Sebille:
1 - Amadia
2 - Tir-Cendelius
3 - Duna
4 - Zorl-Strissa
5 - Xantessa
6 - Vrogir
7 - Rhalic.
- Anonymous
in my case, Tarquin is in the Lady Vengeance BUT the quest has not been activated
- Anonymous
I murdered Tarquin for being a smartass when I first met him. Guess I should have expected it to affect something later on. lol
- Anonymous
For me Tarquin was never in the cemetery. I learned about the anathema from Qanna when I did that part of the quest. I then talked to Tarquin on the boat and he told me the anathema was just a legend. Then I played for a while doing random quests. I got the blade first, then the hilt. I don't have the quest "All in the Family" and Tarquin won't change his dialogue from vendor.
- Anonymous
i have the hilt, talked to tarquin on the vengeance, he doesn't say anything about blood island. he just tells me to keep looking for the 2nd piece...
- Anonymous
Tarquin is the guy you meet inside Dalis's Cabin of Lady Vengeance(Where you find first two of teleport pyramid) . If you killed him there, this quest won't show up. You can still retrieve sword pieces and get exp, but you wouldn't be able to assemble them. Tarquin's Whereabouts might still show up in your map.
- Anonymous
You can also just attach Qanna while she is petrified and get the key after you destroy her.
- Anonymous
I have both parts the unusual artifact and the blade but when I go to him I can only tell him i have not found it yet.
- Anonymous
Does he give the sword immediately or will it come later? He's on the ship now and has both pieces, but just says the samething over and over.

There is no hatch on bloodmoon island for me, do I need high perception?
- Anonymous
Hey, I have both Unusual Blade and Artefact.
I close a quest by kept them for myself and i dont know what can i do with them now.
Anyone know this?
Thanks
- Anonymous
Don't need to bless Qanna FYI! If you don't have any Source points on hand, or just dont want to expend them, you can use Frost Armor as well or any other spell that removes Petrify in the description.
- Anonymous
FYI you can destroy the Clay sentinels before looting the room avoiding a fight. Best done with some sort of AOE spells/skill.
- Anonymous
I've used teh combination 2 - 1 - 3 yet no hatch appears, am I doing something wrong here?
There is a much easier way to get entrance to the Crypt.
1. Look at the stairs down the crypt.
2. now go left
3. once you down the hill before the gate u will see a cryp with two knight statues with shields.
4. Destroy or open the gate ( there is a lever on the right side )
5. Enter the tomb
6. Once you are down the tomb DON'T touch anything or you will get petrified
7. The only way to de-petrify is to bless and one of the Nps is named Qanna.
8 Either kill her of persuade her to give you the tomb key and voila you can enter the quest Tomb.
I used the Captain armor (with Tyrants Charm) set on one of my characters.
Let the golems walk to you, they will be charmed and kill each other.
Have your other ranged characters behind and deal with the Clay sentinels.
