I feel like they missed a real opportunity in the crafting department. They could've done so much more with it like:
leather scraps + knife = leather strips
leather strip + metal scrap = belt
belt + leather/metal scraps/plate scraps = varying levels of pants
leather/metal/plate scraps + leather strips = varying levels of boots
metal scraps + tongs = metal ring
metal ring + emerald/ruby/sapphire/diamond/nether crystal = varying types of rings
belt + metal/plate scraps, gemstones = varying types of belts
leather/metal/plate scraps + metal ring = varying levels of gloves
