Backpack is a tool in Divinity: Original Sin 2

"Seemingly bottomless..."

Backpack is an inventory organizational tool. You need to open the backpack to view any items placed inside. This also makes it harder to see everything you have at a glance. Some players prefer to simply use the filter buttons on their inventory to narrow down what they are looking at rather than use backpacks or pouches, as they find containers actually make it harder to manage inventory.

Everyone saying this is useless and bad, but consider this; you can assign Backpacks to your hotbar. So you can have a backpack full of Special Arrows, Scrolls, Grenades, Potions e.t.c. instead of needing to assign each type you want to use to it's own slot. Say you're a Ranger, you can now feasibly have access to all your skills, Arrows and healing items on a single hotbar.

During a battle, if a character with a backpack dies, are the items in their backpack still accessible by all other living characters? In other words, if I give one character all my Scrolls of Resurrection and they die, am I screwed?
