Eithne the Trader is a Quest in Divinity: Original Sin II. Eithne is an undead vendor that has skill books and crafting items and has setup a camp in the Cloisterwood. She asks the Godworken to procure a Corpse Explosion skill book for her.

Important NPCs

  • Eithne
  • Requires around 1200gp to gain 100 attitude, which results in an extra 35% discount.

Eithne the Trader Objectives

  1. Talk to Eithne
  2. Give her Corpse Explosion skill book

Eithne the Trader Walkthrough

At Cloisterwood, you meet an undead trader called Eithne. (Around X:168 Y:223) During her introduction, she will question if you side with the Black Ring or the Divine Order - if you choose Black Ring she will turn hostile and attack. If you choose the Divine Order or neutral options, she will instead inform you that she is searching for a particular tome - a volume that teaches the reader how to make corpses explode. Choosing back away will also cause Eithne to attack you.

You can create the Corpse Explosion skill book by combining any non-source Pyromancy skill book with a non-source Necromancy skill book. Once you have it in your inventory the quest will update.

Once you've traded her the book,  you receive 13450 party Experience, and she walks away and disappears. Your map will update with a location called "Eithne's Rendezvous Point" in the Stonegarden (around X:566 Y:133). Her body will be located in a crypt next to the one with the hatch where you fought the necromancer dog Andras. Loot the corpse and take Eithne's Note to close out the quest.

Eithne's ghost will later appear below the magister barracks in Arx with some dialogue.

Tips & Tricks

  • Since completing her quest will raise her attitude to you to 100, lowering her prices by 20%, it would be wise to buy her items then.
  • This quest requires the skill book "Corpse Explosion" specifically, which can be obtained by combining a non-source Necromancer and Pyromancer skill book. The source version "Mass Corpse Explosion" doesn't work.
  • The exact location after giving her the tome to close the quest is inside a sarcophagus at coordinates X:564 Y:130 Eithne's Rendezvous Point
  • There is a Persuasion check for Intelligence, Memory, or Constitution.
  • If you sell her the book she is looking for, you receive 13450 party Experience.
  • Since Eithne may be a useful vendor, you should consider finishing this quest later rather than sooner, just in case her shop generates some useful items.

If you are Sworn when talking to her spirit in Arx you can get the dialogue option: [SWORN] *Tell her the Covenant holds the only peace she will ever find.*

After using this option I wasn't able to find any way to actually help her become sworn, unfortunately.

Killing her is incredibly easy- just get all of your physical damage dealers to flank her and knock her over with Battering Ram or Battle stomp. She doesn't have much physical armour so this is the most effective way i can think of. Rogues backlashing behind her and backstabbing her helps too

If you kill her at level 16, you will get about 17.5k gold from her corpse and 3 top tier skill books in summoning, necromancy and polymorph. And about 7k experience.

          • Anonymous

The maximum discount you can receive appears to be 52.4%, between bartering and attitude I got it up to a 71% discount but her prices where stuck at the 52% figure.

This quest doesn't bugged in Definitive edition. Just talk with her and don't say you like blackpits. Do all chatting and quit talking. Craft corpse explosion and quest log will updated. Select first choice(tell her you have just the book she's looking for) and in the trade menu just select corpse explosion and don't want anything. Quest will updated again and eithne's location marked on the map. Go to the location and quest will finished Note: If you give her corpse explosion book, you can't trade with her again so buy anything you like before this.

              • I’ve recently killed Eithne multiple times, as she left after receiving the Skillbook, and her corpse has disappeared every single time. Playing on PS4 DE, and the Exp for killing her is 7,500. I’m not sure whether this is more or less than when finding her corpse in the grave, but I decided to simply steal back all of my gold and then let her go — her corpse is otherwise unlootable, so killing her seems senseless unless finding her corpse in the graveyard yields no exp.

I was confused when I went to the graveyard and saw not only her bones in the tomb, but a "living" version of her standing next to her bones. Tried talking to her for a couple of minutes only to find out its a glitch. This happened in the Definitive Edition (PS4).

I just stole the skill book after selling it to her, she doesn't seem to mind and still finishes the quest lol

Found her in her tomb, well, dead, couldn't kill her to get the 14k xp as some people were saying X567 y133

Bought EVERYTHING she had, completed the quest, attacked her once she started walking to the graveyard, got my money back.

Error in tip about recipe, you gotta use any NO-SOURCE CONSUMING skill books to end with a corpse explosion skill book

                          • Anonymous

After you complete the quest, you can find her spirit in Arx, while doing "the last stand of the magisters" quest (in the room with the 3 geists).

"Since she's trader with loads of books and gold, there's a way how to get them all along with both 1) exp for giving her the books, 2) exp for killing her and also, close the quest.

                              1. Respec all your character to Thievery 3 or more.
                              2. Pickpocket her with all character (4 times).
                              3. Give her what she needs (a Corpse Explosion book). Get around 14k exp.
                              4. She'll walk away, going to the graveyard. Attack and kill her. Get another 14k exp.
                              5. Quest is closed.

She wanted to be free of her undead status anyway. So you kinda helped her by killing her instead she doing it herself at the graveyard."

This is good, but there's a better step to improve this to save a bit of time. Instead of respecing, just have one character with thievery and make sure you got a good amount of gold. At this point I had 50k gold, I placed all the gold into a coin purse or a backpack or any FORM of bag. Gave her the bag, and bought everything from her in exchange for the gold. my rogue pickpocketed her, took the bag of gold which is only worth 1kg. The coins won't be marked as stolen - if it does just stack it with a NON-stolen coin to remove the tag. The backpack/coinpurse will still be marked stolen but it won't matter - if it bugs you just throw it away, plenty of coin purses lying around.

It would be nice that she hand over her gold, since she's already going to kill herself! Pfft, can't take it with her!

When I combine a necromancer and pyro book, I end up with Mass Corpse Explosion instead. I'm guessing the levels of the skill books matter?

Note that you need corpse explosion, not mass corpse explosion. I was wondering the entire time why the latter didn't work before I realize that there's a single target version of the spell.
