Important NPCs

Old means Gold Objectives

  1. Speak to Cat the Appraiser.
  2. Pass her speech check and find out the items she needs.
  3. Find out how to enter Kemm's secret vault.
  4. Find all 3 antiques.
  5. Sell all 3 antiques to Cat.

Old means Gold Walkthrough

At the west side of the city of Arx, outside of Lord Kemm's Mansion, there will be some antique traders awaiting a notable appraiser named Cat who is currently inside the mansion. Head inside the mansion and speak to her. If you manage to pass a speech check, she will ask you to find three valuable antiques inside Kemm's Vault. This is very straightforward quest, but may require some points in Wits to spot some hidden wall doors. This quest is best done in conjunction with "The Vault of Linder Kemm".

Inside Kemm's Vault, there are several automatons patrolling around. You can sneak past them or kill them. To successfully kill them, you must weaken them until they become inactive and then use Source Vampirism on them to finish them off. (If you do not, they will simply regenerate and continue fighting you.)

The pictures below detail the locations of the three items required. Each time an item is acquired, you will gain 19,400XP.

Kemms Vault

1. The Cup of Kings is located in the west side of the area near the dining table on a small table next to an armchair.

2. The Scroll of Eternity will be found lying on top of a bookrest in the east side of the vault.

3. The Painting of the Divine is hanging on the wall in a hidden room east of the scroll.

Potrait of the Divine

After you find all three antiques, return to Cat the Appraiser and sell her the antiques to complete the quest by asking her about the curios and saying that you've found them.

Warning: There have been many reports of a bug where attempting to sell her more than one antique at a time will only register one antique total and therefore force the quest to become stuck, so sell her one antique and restart the dialogue each time!

After you sell all three antiques to her, the quest will close and she will disappear.

Rewards:

  • 19,400XP upon successfully passing the speech check to get her to talk about the antiques she requires.
  • 19,400XP per antique picked up, for a total of 58,200XP for all 3 antiques.
  • Some gold for each antique, based on bartering skill and attitude.

I remember saying I'll take all the treasures for myself and she didn't want to talk to me again. After I got the 3 item. I can still sell it to her through my companions. I got the money and the quest in closed. But I didn't get the 58k exp. I didn't bother to reload since it's waay to long to backtrack. I guess you must be friendly with her from the beginning

All the directions are reversed in the article (the cup is in the west, the other two items are in the east)

WARNING: When you initiate a conversation with her first and persuade her to tell her about items, do NOT tell her that now that you know about items you can do whatever you want with them and do not need her. This leads to her quest becoming stuck completely. I have done so and when I go back to her she says "we have nothing to talk about anymore" and I can not trade with her either but quest does not fail or close.

For some reason, i put her attitude to +1037 on my character, when i finished picking up the quest reward, she suddenly turned aggro'd.

As of the date of writing this, on Definitive Edition, Honor Mode, at level 20 you can follow them into the garden and kill the body guard for 38,800xp. Don't know if she rewards any xp herself as she just carried on walking away as her body guard was being attacked. Npcs in the area show up as red during the battle but go back to being your friend once the battle ends.

Weird, never triggered the quest but all conversations went nicely, and I got all the XP then sold all three items to her. Well, as long as I got the XP, I m all good.

I have high wits characters and stand right in front of the doors of the painting but they do just not find them. What am I doing wrong? :(

                  • Anonymous

Sold all three items at once and she didn't say nothing. She just walked away towards the garden, disappeared with the red quest flag and my quest is still active on the log. Guess I will never finish it them. Bugged quest, for sure On Xbox, BTW

I selled the items to cat, and the she dissapear. How it's supposed to find the scroll to finish the path of blood quest?

                      • Anonymous

you can kill her and retrieve the items and/or gold back after completing the quest, she may disappear into the kitchen or west wing area (just reload) but usually the script has her walk over to the garden area towards the vault; you can murder her there, her elven guard doesn't seem to mind

Problem. I dont have a painting. Dunno how. I took everything and I had gone to thieves guild fighting with trolls. After that and complete quest qith Arhu I wanted to give the items to cat. NO PAINTING. Ive searched merchants, everything, but still - no luck. Cant complete the quest. When I give the cup and scroll to Cat, after that there is no dialogue option about items, only "what you are looking for". What the ***** Larian?

                          • I think I sold the "Responsibility" painting to Cat the Appraiser before she disappeared. Why does this game not flag quest items? I am reporting this as a game breaking bug.

So, I'd already looted the vault including the quest items prior to even talking to Cat. When I did speak with her I immediately went to sell her the items but realized as I placed them into the trade window that I should do the trade with my barter character. As I exited the trade I got the quest complete experience despite still having the items. I traded them to her anyways since they're otherwise useless.

I experienced the bug where I couldn’t sell her items. They’d just flash and not sell. By going into the barter screen I was able to give her all three and successfully complete the quest.

Never mind; i found it., It wasn't on the large table but rather on a smaller round table to the left of the large table niche.

The cup seems to be missing in DE. I found the scroll and the painting but the Cup of kings doesn't seem to exist. All cups on the table were just regular glasses or gold cups.

                                    • Anonymous

So I remember grabbing the correct painting. The painting of the Divine i believe it is called. Went to sell the stuff to her and could not find it. Just a painting of a knight worth 1 gold that tripped the quest succesfully. Meh

                                      • They must have renamed the painting recently. The one I got is called "Painting of a knight" (worth 1g). I sold all three items to her one at a time, exiting the conversation naturally each time. This completed the quest and I got XP and some random reward items, 1k gold, and choice of a lvl 18 gear, which was useless to me, but worth another 1k gold. So, not really worth it at level 19, but if you like sneaking around and getting past the sentries then may as well.

The Scroll of Eternity is under Books and Keys
The Cup of Kings is under "Miscellaneous tab"
The Painting of the Divine is under the "Miscellaneous tab" as well

Am i supposed to be paid by her by "selling" the items to her? If that is so the devs didn't think this through, she only has 300 gold!

                                            • Anonymous

I completed it and she took the painting. It's the painting needed to get deeper into Kemm's vault and complete that quest. I'm not yet certain but I think having a pact with the God King and not being able to complete this task causes the game to not be complete-able.

I was able to complete the quest by choosing to barter with her. Tried both selling and donating but neither worked.

                                                • Anonymous

I talked to her, failed persuasion (with max persuasion) and got a quest that never explained anything. After reading here what I need, I took those 3 items and sold them to her. After closing dialogue she walked toward a big hatch called basement and disappeared.

When I entered the red flag said she is there, but she is not, she is just gone!

Well I think there is an issue here. I found the scroll and the painting. I should have found the cup because I took everything on the table.
After that I went straight to Cat but I can't find that damned F~*#ing cup in my inventory... I'm sure I didn't sell it and there is nothing left on the table. I checked twice with "Alt".

                                                    • Anonymous

This quest is retarded. Why does Larian wants us to trade the items from our inventory which has no search function. I gave the 2 items but I cant seem to *****ing find the scroll in my *****ing inventory because it is highly crowded. What am I supposed to do now? Search for two hours one by one for the Scroll of Eternity. What purpose does this process serve? THX Larian.

Seems to be broken. Going back to Cat she just opens a trade menu, trading her the items she just says "Now for the rest" with no quest update or completion.
