The Advocate Walkthrough

A WORD TO THE WISE!
When you first talk to the Advocate, do not opt to immediately kill him! This quest has you clearing a necessary encounter for "The Secrets of Bloodmoon Isle"', and if the Advocate dies before this quest is finished, it will never close.

Travel to Bloodmoon island (see the link to find out how to get there). When you reach it, speak with the Advocate. He is located in the western part of the island, near the beach. He will ask you to help him clear out the Black Ring forces which surrounded the nearby Ancestor Tree. Pressing him to reveal the name of the Voidwoken God King will cause some Voidwoken to spawn and attack your party, but thankfully The Advocate and his forces will join in the fight on your side.

  • Note: While the Voidwoken appear, you can use the chaos to kill the Advocate. This will end the quest without rewards.

Agree to help the Advocate and he will immediately suggest to teach you to master the source. This will add 1 point to your source point maximum. If you already have 3 source point maximum, he will give you a random source skillbook instead.

Go to the Ancestor Tree to the north and prepare for a fight. There will be 4 Black Ring Magisters, 2 of which will summon a golem (for a total of 2) to aid them in the fight. These Bone Smasher golems grant 14450XP each, but if you kill their summoners first, they will disappear not granting any XP. There will also be a powerful high-hp "Undead Black Ring Destroyer" spawned at the start of the fight, but killing him grants no XP.

After the battle is over, The Advocate will appear immediately and engage you in a conversation, ultimately revealing the location of The Nameless Isle as he promised. The quest is effectively complete at this point, although you can still choose to attack him.

Rewards:

  • 1 Source Mastery OR 1 random Source Skillbook (if you already have 3 source point maximum)
  • 14450XP per Bone Smasher golem kill, for a total of 28900XP for both golems.
  • 28900XP per magister kill, for a total of 115,600XP for all 4 magisters.
  • 194,550XP upon killing all the Black Ring forces and learning the location of the Nameless Isle, completing the quest.
  • 1 choice of random Rare-quality loot upon completion of the quest.

Weird enough, I killed the black ring after talking to advocate and they didn't come to the middle.. I killed all of em near the beach. I chose the right dialog too.

These miserable wretches have no idea how value works. A source point capacity is worth anywhere between 300k-500k gold points, and you're trying to replace that with shiny colored toilet paper? I'll obliterate you just for insulting me.

They should have added unique skill books or rewards to all of these "mAsTeRs", just like for Jahan.

I've played through the game many times and it's only happened once but has anyone else gotten the Advocate to instantly attack after the battle with the black ring ? He just teleports in the instant the last one dies and the battle continues with the Advocate and his goons as your enemies. No break or anything, counts as though they just entered the fight normally for turn orders so if your dudes had already spent their turns they don't get new ones.

          • Bone Smashers can be infinitely killed for 7225 XP per each kill. Get into the fight, wait for enemies to summon 1 or 2, kill Smashers - leave the combat. IIRC this is the only infinite experience source in DoS 2, might be wrong.
Killed them like 10 times just to be sure, but for whatever reason one time I didn't get experience for killing a Smasher, no idea why because I kept getting XP for further kills.

My fight on tactician DE, the undead black ring destroyer was there and granted XP but only one bone crusher got summoned (I waited couple of turn before killing any of them to make sure they don't spawn) so killed only one bone crusher + 4 black ring + destroyer

The advocate sells a random unique item.
You can re-roll the item by saving and loading to before you enter the gate.
                I've seen a spear/shield/crossbow.
(Did not test further because I wanted the crossbow.)

I gave money to the guards at the entrance to the camp to be friendly I sent a character to pull the black ring to the camp and then the third character who came up with the name of the Good King and created a chaotic square battle between them all

Uhh what is this about the Advocate showing up after I kill the Black Ring people? The fight ended, I won, and that was that. The Advocate is still waiting for me to do something.

                    • Anonymous

After killing the black ring guys you can teleport the advocat freely around whenever he is in a conversation with you. He wont aggro. So you can teleport him to the mystical bridge at the entrance of bloodmoon island. trigger the traps and wait until he dies of.
Imagine you could take him anywhere... Maybe I shuld have taken him to tavern

Don't miss the option to press for the name of the master of the void woken (persuasion 5). Afterwards 4 void woken will spawn for ~60k exp.

                        • Anonymous

If you have a summon up when the battle with the black ring members is over the advocate will be immediately hostile when he shows up. Very annoying.

                            Things to note:

If you charm the big undead brute, the evasion aura is then on you and your allies, but not your enemies. You can use Dominate Mind (doesn't miss) or a charmed arrow (also did not miss and gave no percentage chance to hit like a regular hit).

Glitter Dust will "cancel out" the evasion capabilities of the big brute so you can bring him down (although, I actually ended up kill him last between freezing him and charming him).

He's undead and heal spells also won't miss, by the way. Nor should Soul Mate and healing yourself.

I could not figure out what was causing the evasion aura at first (it doesn't say "aura" on him) until I charmed him and suddenly my whole party was the one evading.

You can teleport away the Undead Black Ring Destroyer corpse on the ground before the fight begins so you don't have to fight him, doesn't give XP anyway.

There is bug/plot hole, IF YOU DON'T TELL HIM TO TEACH YOU BEFORE YOU ACCEPT THE MISSION and you chose another option even if you help him HE WONT TEACH YOU how to chanel more source.

I didn't do the count but you can one shot The Advocate and maybe the two others nearby by teleporting the black ring corpses near them and mass exploding them...

                                  • Anonymous

If you kill the Advocate when you get to Arx and enter the school the npcs there will automatically engage a fight with you (they are level 20 and you will be level 18 i think)

Killed Black ring guys 1st. Advocate talked to me,didn't tell me who master was. Did some other stuff. Came back he don't say $hit. Proceed to kill him. Go to Jahan get reward. Now I'm forever stuck with Secrets of Blood moon in my log :(

                                      • Anonymous

There might be a bug here. There is a dead black ring guy next to the tree and they will usually resurrect this dude when you start the fight. I teleported his dead body way out of the sight of the black ring guys and they didn't resurrect him in the fight. I then killed all the black ring guys, even spoke to the tree and got the xp from it, finished all other quests in the island but the advocate still thinks I haven't killed those guys. The quest is now bugged for me I guess. Only way forward is to kill the advocate. DE

Dont know if this is suppose to happen but apparently you can cheese lots of exp out of these guy. Each time a bone smasher die they always give 14k exp. So i killed only those bone smashers then ran away, those blackrings wont chase. When i come back they summoned another 2 bone smashers and thats another 14k exp x2, killed 6 bone smashers in total just now, too bad im already level 16 so it doesnt mean much but if you have the time maybe you can farm these guy.

So when I got to the island, he told me his bosses name, and he died in the ensuing fight, but I got sourced up AND I got the job to kill the Black Ring bad dudes, so am I good to go?

I am at the tree, beat the black ring guys, then I decide to deal with the Advocate. This genius just used mass corpse explosion as the very first move in the fight, slightly hurt me and killed himself. Mission accomplished.

After defeating the Black Ring forces, The Advocate teleported in and his forces immediately aggroed. Maybe I had left some fire on the ground? I had to die/run and gift him some loot to be able to finish the quest.

                                                • Anonymous

I didn’t meet The Advocate until after I’d killed all the Black Ring members almost immediately after my arrival, now I’m doing the island’s quests and the NPCs that aren’t ghosts all say ‘leave’, be careful.

                                                  • Anonymous

I realize that they aren't paying much attention to the Black Ring Destroyer that was being summoned. I snuck near it and teleported it away. I then drained its source, so the corpse became inert and could no longer be resurrected. That takes it out of the fight and makes it much easier. It's win win because you don't get xp for killing him and he's a bullet sponge. Not only that, but he has permanent evasion aura which makes the fight feel unfair if you don't remove him.

                                                    • Anonymous

In my game, the Advocate died fighting the voidwokens spawning after I successfully persuaded him to tell me his boss' name. This closed all his related quests including this quest, without giving me the XP. I got to the island at lvl 9 by jumping on the invisible bridge (it's on the minimap and usable without Spirit Vision).

                                                      • Anonymous

Like most of this game and it's battles, Summons are your saving grace. I teleported the Bone Golems far away to the east behind the trees, then blocked the routes with Bone Widow Spiders, too many things in this game are undead that love poison, so Angry Flower summon is frequently a big mistake. Sure is a flaw in the game, as is trying to have Fane on your team, he gets attacked with healing spells that can wreck him, and only a couple of team-"healing" spells actually won't hurt him (the spreading Heal spell actually bypasses him, like all group healings should do so that you don't injure or kill Fane). Other than that, the tree battle was fairly easy, just attack from the back side and that helps too.

                                                        • Anonymous

I managed to cheese him with deathfog (not with the deathfog barrel trick from game start). There is a small cloud of deathfog at one side of the broken bridge, you can transpose it to the other side of the bridge (quicksave each time you manage to transpose it to one "tower" as it's heavily glitched and sometimes the cloud just disappear). Once you managed to transpose it, bring the advocate by teleporting him (he won't attack you right away) : Teleport him once with a character, talk to him with another, teleport the advocate on the deathfog, ends the conversation. You win.

                                                          • Anonymous

Coming up behind the brute and teleporting him as far away from the encounter as possible will make him leave combat and be able to be killed whenever you want. Making the fight fairly easier.

                                                            • Anonymous

If you initiate the fight at the right time you can catch the four black ring...whatevers while they are linked to one another so you only have to hurt two of them to kill the other two it makes the fight a lot easier. Also starting the fight from the opposite end of the pain weaver that speaks to you buys you some time before the brute can make their way over and when they do if you can teleport them away while you finish off who ever is left standing.

                                                              • Anonymous

If you tell Jahan you won't kill the advocate he attacks you. It is impossible to win this fight as he is level 20

                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                  • Anonymous

Regarding him being evil or not, well I just judged him based on his followers. He himself is wellspoken enough but his followers seem to be a bunch of insane demon cannibals who looked upon us more as morsels to be ripped apart rather than anything else. Needless to say, I took pleasure in quickly massacring all I was able to find of them on the Island. And in DOS1 Jahan, although often difficult in his approaches, was a party member. I also just like the guy and demon hunters in general tend to be badasses. So yeah, a favor for old friends.

                                                                    • Anonymous

Doesn't even give me a skill book! I guess I'll find him a prisoner in the Doctors basement when I reach Arx?

                                                                      • Anonymous

There are 3 by the gate at the broken bridge who might've greeted you when you arrived on the isle. Then there's the Mabldq the Stalker (a possessed dog) or whatever on the beach.

                                                                        • A word to the wise: If the Advocate dies by any means, you will be ambushed by a particularly strong group of Nemesis demons in Act 4 (Arx - near the Black House) as part of the Doctor's Orders quest.

                                                                          • Anonymous

As soon as I approached, the Destroyer aggro'd me, every single demon ran to the next wall, trembling, I'm like what the actual *****, Archdemon and the Agony Mistress or what the ***** she's called just ran off like kids or townsfolk, was a bit comical, anyway the point it became ridiculous is when I used the water - shock combo to keep him stunned, meanwhile a possessed dog just wandered around the place and eventually - AI fail - walked right into my electrified blood, and guess what happened? Suddenly every *****ing demon is in the fight against me. :/ Have to redo the last 2 hours

They are strong but good for more XP.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

Just took my sweet time teleporting the Undead Destroyer all the way back to the Advocate before the fight. That didn`t trigger the battle with the Black Ring and I`m hoping it makes it considerably easier.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

The Advocate attacked me right away after the Black Ring combat, but I believe it was because I've used Battle Stomp to finish off the last enemy. Reloaded and killed the last one quietly - the Advocate engaged me in dialogue.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

You can just move the corpse of Black Ring Destroyer faraway. Then leave it theree and engage with the other 4. The Destroyer will resurrect but won't get into the fight and will just stand there. After kill 4 wizards the fight close and Advocate will not appear until you kill the Destroyer (the last one). So you can speak to the tree, prepare the battlefield, do other stuff. Then just kill Destroyer in the outside. Advocate then will appear near the tree and you can choose to talk to him to close the quest. Then attack him and finish Lohse's quest as well

                                                                                          • Anonymous

If you flee combat and return, you can pay the advocate a few thousand as a "gift" which raises his attitude with you and you can receive the nameless isle and finish the quest. GL, fleeing combat from those dicks is hard.

Gotta say, I never googled quests/problems in games normally but this game just doesn't seem stable and questlines have constantly broken throughout my play through =<

Mh so we only noticed a lot later that he wasnt meant to attack us immediatly, so now we dont have a save going before the fight.
(We are currently stuck at driftwood) So can we even proceed further in the game without knowing the nameless islands location?

Having 3 factions in the fight will give you a lot more room and time to kill him and his companions if you wish you kill him early.
